Douglas Richard Presnell was born Nov. 17, 1961, in Spokane, to Roxie and Don Presnell. He passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Doug was raised in Craigmont, where he learned the values of hard work, faith and family that remained central throughout his life. He graduated from Craigmont High School in 1980 and went on to attend Lewis-Clark State College, earning an associate degree in welding and mechanics.
Doug began his career in the logging industry but later found his true calling in farming. The land became more than his livelihood — it became a place where he poured his energy, dedication and pride. One of his greatest joys was farming alongside his son, Shane, passing down both knowledge and values that will continue for generations.
On March 4, 1995, Doug married the love of his life, Shelley Schmidt. Together they built a home centered on faith, love and family. Doug was a devoted husband and father who took great pride in caring for the people he loved.
Doug’s strong Christian upbringing shaped the man he became. In 2025, he joined the Catholic Church, deepening his spiritual journey. Attending church each Sunday with Shelley became a cherished tradition.
Doug enjoyed the simple things in life. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Seattle Seahawks and Gonzaga Bulldogs and rarely missed watching a game. He also loved cooking for family and friends, especially during the holidays when his prime rib and macaroni and cheese became a much-anticipated tradition.
Doug will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence and extraordinary patience. Those who knew him often said he had more patience in his little finger than most people have in their entire bodies. His love for his family was constant and unwavering.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Shelley; his son, Shane; his brother, Dennis; his sister, Trina; and his aunts, Eileen Pentzer and Sandy Flood, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roxie and Don Presnell, as well as his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Doug’s legacy of faith, kindness and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, March 23, at All Saints Catholic Church, 3330 14th St., Lewiston. A dinner will follow the Mass in the parish social hall. The burial will take place after the dinner at Fletcher Cemetery near Craigmont.
