Elizabeth “Betty” Eileen Lillie, 98, of Lapwai, was born in Uniontown, on Jan. 1, 1925, to Elizabeth Broemmeling and Carl J. Ricard. She attended a one-room county schoolhouse through her sixth-grade year until it closed. She finished her schooling and graduated high school in Uniontown.
Betty married Thomas H. Lillie on Nov. 4, 1946, in Lewiston. They had two children, Carlene and Doug. They farmed and raised cattle until his death on Oct. 27, 1956, in the Garden Gulch a
She was an accredited medical record technician and was president of the North Idaho Medical Record Association in 1981. Betty was a licensed nurse and worked at Orchard Villa for 12 years in the Medical Record Department.
A very independent woman, Betty enjoyed antique collecting, traveling and reading. She loved animals and kept the birds and stray cats fed for miles around her house in the Lapwai Valley.
She was extremely caring and giving to so many. She attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lapwai and was very active within her church community.
Betty passed on to heaven on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, of natural causes. She will be greatly missed and her family and friends cherish all the memories that were made with her throughout her life on earth.
She is survived by her son, Doug and his wife, Charlene; grandchildren Jamie (Jim), Leighton (Shayla), Hayley (Joseph) and Kylee (Paul). She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren that she enjoyed watching grow up.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas, daughter and son-in-law Carlene, and Harold Heimgartner, four brothers, and one sister.
The rosary prayer service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the Catholic Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lapwai. Burial will follow at the Normal Hill Cemetery.
