Fern Hirsch passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, from natural causes after a six-year struggle with Alzheimer's dementia. She was a lifelong resident of the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.
Fern was born at the family home in Asotin on Aug. 4, 1919, to Charles L. and Grace (Fourre) Cooper. She attended public schools in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1937. In 1941, she married Leon Hirsch. They were married for 54 years. Fern taught piano lessons for many years while raising her daughter.
Fern was an active member of the former Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish. She played the organ there for many years. Besides her love of music, Fern enjoyed sewing, gardening and walking. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
Fern is survived by her daughter, Cheryl A. Lopriore, and her husband Alan of Massachusetts; and her grandson, Zachary D. Lopriore. She also is survived by great-nephew Don Torgerson of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, who died in 1995; sisters Vie Davis and Faye Sevier; brother William Cooper; and nephews Allen Torgerson and Glenn Manwaring.
A memorial service will be held at a time convenient for the family. Burial will be private.
Cheryl would like to thank her very dear friend, Terry, for all the help, love, patience and kindness that she unselfishly gave to Fern over the past several years. Cheryl also would like to thank the ever-patient staff at Guardian Angel for the tender care they gave to her mother from beginning to end. They are truly exceptional. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's research foundation of your choice.
