George Manley Currier, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Up until the very end, George maintained his kindness, compassion and love for his family and friends. He expressed gratitude for living a long, wonderful life full of incredible experiences. George was born Nov. 25, 1933, to Ethel Mae Currier and James Holman Currier in Vallejo, Calif.

George enjoyed DIY projects and helping Betty attend to her beautiful flower gardens. He wrote several history books on St. Maries and various articles published in Idaho Magazine. His love for the history of St. Maries included a play that he wrote about “Wobblies,” Boathouse Nelly, and activities of the waterfront. George had several hobbies, whittling being one of them. His military service included tours in Germany, Dominican Republic and the Amazon River in Colombia. He was a military man through and through, so proud to serve his country. His military career totaled 34 years, which included 10 years in the USA and USAF. He was with the Washington Air National Guard for 24 years, where he was first sergeant for the 105th Tactical Squadron. Later, he served as senior enlisted adviser for the Washington Air National Guard, and finally retiring as chief master sergeant.
He worked for 21 years for General Telephone Company in St. Maries, before retiring in 1991. He lived in St. Maries from 1970 to 2006; that is when he moved to Lewiston. He was elected to the St. Maries City Council for 11 years and served as Benewah County Emergency Manager from 1992 to 2000, including during the 1996 floods of Benewah County. He was executive director of the Greater St. Joe Valley Economic Development Foundation and spearheaded the revitalization project of downtown St. Maries from 2000-2003.
