George L. Smith, 60, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, of natural causes. He was born May 29, 1957, in Lewiston to George E. and Janice Smith. George attended both grade school and high school in Lewiston, from which he graduated in 1975. He was a lifetime resident of Lewiston.
After graduation, George worked for the Twin City Foods from 1985 to 1992. He also worked for Ed Groceclose who ran a metal salvaging company and wrecking yard in Juliaetta. George also worked for Auction West helping with auctions in the area for several years. He worked for a time for Good Will Industries.
George and his mother lived together, and when she became ill he was her caregiver until she moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho, where his brother Floyd and wife Carol Jenks took care of her. George especially enjoyed going to the family get-togethers when they had pinochle parties and family picnics. He was an avid member of the Finest 50s Car Club and also a member of Lewis-Clark Coin Club. He was very helpful to his friends, especially to Randy Overman by taking him places.
He was preceded in death by his father, and his mother passed away one week after George's death. George is survived by his brothers Don Jenks of Post Falls, Idaho, and Floyd (Carol) Jenks of Spirit Lake, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
Services for George and his mother Janice will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, make a donation in his name to your favorite charity.
