Grace Talbott was born June 23, 1929, in La Grande, Ore., and died Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in Lewiston.
Grace grew up in La Grande and Portland, the youngest of seven children. She married Erwin Carpenter on Nov. 26, 1946. They lived in La Grande until moving to Bend, Ore., in 1956. After Erwin retired, they moved to Grangeville. Grace lived in Lewiston for 11 years.
Grace was a shy, gentle soul with a core of strength that saw her through many trials, from many eye surgeries as a child, to two breast cancer diagnoses in her 40s, to being a caregiver for Erwin after he had a stroke. She met each challenge with grace.
Grace's greatest love was for her family. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, all her brothers and sisters, husband Erwin and her granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Carpenter White. She is survived by her son, William Carpenter (Carla); daughter Cynthia Lang (Lou); grandchildren Lisa Lang, Aaron Lang (Angie), Kris Carpenter (Candita), Stephanie Patterson (Dave) and Erica Lovell. She also is survived by great-grandchildren Ashley, Demitrius, Kenzie, Jordon, Kaelyn, Tristan, Cash, Garrett, Faith, Carmen, Ryan and Anna.
