Irene Uptmor was born in Keuterville to Herman and Mary Uptmor on Nov. 6, 1914. She had just celebrated her 102nd birthday before passing away peacefully in her home in Lewiston on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016.
Irene received her elementary education at Keuterville and continued her education at St. Gertrude's Academy. She walked to elementary school many times in zero-degree weather, therefore earning her a no tardy/no absence certificate.
Irene married Bill Uptmor on Sept. 4, 1934, in Keuterville. They were married 48 years before he passed away in 1982.
She was a homemaker for many years, enjoying gardening and canning for her family. She was active in church societies and various clubs.
Irene and Bill enjoyed dancing and playing cards with family and friends.
In 1962, they moved to Garden City, Idaho, near Boise, where they owned and operated a service station and motel. After living there for 10 years, they retired to Lewiston in 1972.
She is survived by one son, Richard Uptmor (Marylou) of Cottonwood; and five daughters, Evelyn Durant (Morgan) of Tucson, Ariz., Marge Eisele (Bud) and Dorean Nuxoll, both of Lewiston, Marlys Abrahamson (Jim) of Cheney, Wash., and Judith Kranz (Steve) of Eagle, Idaho; and daughter-in-law Leona Uptmor in Lewiston; as well as sister Theresa Sonnen (Everett); and brother Bud Uptmor.
She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; son Bob; her parents; and sons-in-law Marvin Sonnen and Ernie Nuxoll.
Funeral services will be celebrated beginning with a rosary at 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church in Lewiston. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Keuterville Cemetery.
