Jacqueline Elizabeth Bell, 47, a former Lewiston resident, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Spokane.
A lawyer by training, Bell turned to working with nonprofit organizations the last 14 years. She died from cardiac arrest while assisting a client in the county prosecuting attorney's office.
Bell was born Dec. 17, 1969, at Spokane, to Patricia Sue and Michael Bell. She attended Lewiston schools after the family moved to Lewiston in 1972 for her father's radiology medical practice, and she graduated from Lewiston High School in 1988. She graduated with a political science degree in 1992 from the University of Washington and was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. She received her law degree in 1995 from the University of Colorado Law School, with an emphasis in environmental law.
Bell practiced law in Seattle from 1996 to 2002, specializing in environmental law. She moved to Spokane in 2003, working at the Coeur d'Alene Humane Society, the Spokane County Animal Shelter and St. Joseph's Family Center. She most recently was employed at the Spokane YWCA, utilizing her law background in work with disadvantaged adults and families.
One primary involvement was assisting the Spokane County Search and Rescue. In 2015, Bell received Spokane County's Search and Rescue Outstanding Coordinator award.
She is survived by her parents, Mike and Linda Bell of Clarkston; sister Karen (Shelley) Crumb and husband Patrick of Seattle; and brothers Tony Bell of Lewiston, Ed Bell and wife Erin of Kirkland, Wash., Brad DePew and wife Kristin of Seattle, and Brett DePew and wife Sue of Coeur d'Alene.
She doted on nine nieces and nephews in Seattle, Kirkland and Coeur d'Alene.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewiston's Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather afterward at the Clarkston Event Center, 841 Sixth St., Clarkston.
A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at Spokane's Woodland Center at the John A. Finch Arboretum.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to River's Wish Animal Sanctuary, 11511 W. Garfield Road, Spokane, WA 99224.
