Jane Edith Riedmiller, 90, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 25, 2017, after a short illness as she was resting at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
Born in Pequannock, N.J., Jane grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. As a young woman, she earned her registered nurse certificate in Paterson, N.J., before traveling to Florida and California - on larks - to begin her nursing career.
In 1951 in Napa, Calif., Jane married Paul Victor Riedmiller before moving to Aurora, Colo., where she eventually lived at least four decades of her life as a wife and mother. During 1963 to 1966, she followed her career Air Force husband to Bitburg, Germany, where she often planned many excursions to see the fascinating sights of Europe. It was her idea that her husband accept this assignment. She wanted the excitement of a foreign environment.
Returning to Denver, she and Paul became longtime members of Ports of Call Travel Club, which helped her to become a world traveler: she explored China, Australia, the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America - along with most of the United States. She was curious and knowledgeable - ready to study new places.
In midlife, Jane studied hard and graduated with honors from Metropolitan State University, Denver, earning a bachelor's degree in both history and anthropology. Her professors wanted her to go on to graduate school.
When her husband preceded her in death in the late 1980s, she eventually decided that she would like a change, moving to Lewiston to be near her youngest daughter, Theresa Chrisman, who survives her. She is also survived by four other adult children: Victor of Denver; David of Boulder, Colo., Mary of Spokane, and Alice of San Diego. Until her death, Jane lived out her retirement on Lewiston's Mayfair Drive.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Jane be remembered through gifts in her name to favorite charities. Jane loved to help people in need, especially children. She loved children.
