In Loving Memory of Jared M. Hansen, of Clarkston, Jan. 4, 1939 – Nov. 1, 2025
We honor the memory of Jared Merlyn Hansen, a loving husband, father and grandfather, beloved friend and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Born Jan. 4, 1939, Jared lived his life guided by the teachings of his faith until his peaceful passing Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025.
Jared exemplified the principles of faith, compassion and service. His commitment to Jesus Christ and His gospel shaped every aspect of his life — from his gentle leadership within his church community to his unwavering support of family and friends. Jared served in various callings, to include bishoprics, stake high councils, cub scouts and 10 years of temple service; he touched many lives through kindness, generosity and testimony.
He was born in Pocatello to Joseph Martinus and Thelma Ruth Finley Hansen. He was the fourth of five children, sisters Elsie Caroline, Marvella Joy and Shirley Ann and brother David Lyle.
He was married in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 4, 1964, to the love of his life, Ila Noreen Young. They are the parents of five children: Jared Martin (Ashley) Hansen, Joeseph Michael (Julie) Hansen, Steven Wade (Leanne) Hansen, Kimberly (Ryan) Watson and Tracey (Robert) Whitlock. He was a proud grandfather to Kiley, Tyler, Tucker, Emily, Krista, Alexander, Danny, Meagan, Morgan, Kiryn, Jared, Brianna and Saige and many great-grandchildren.
Jared grew up in Salt Lake City, vicinity, graduating from Olympus High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Air Force immediately after high school, serving his country for four years. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints in the Northern States mission from 1961-1963. He was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a 1968 graduate of Brigham Young University. He worked for the Boy Scouts of America for 36 years, retiring after serving in California, Utah, Idaho and Washington. He was an avid woodworker, loved his outdoor adventures with his sons and adored his time watching and playing with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his four siblings, his son Jared Martin and grandchildren John Zachary and Kelsie Lin.
