Johnnie Jay Branting, 69, died of cancer Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, at Lewiston Transitional Care of Cascadia. Born Jan. 11, 1954, in Lewiston, to John and Dorothy née Dammarell Branting, he was educated in Lewiston schools, graduating from Lewiston High School with the class of 1973. He was a lifelong member of the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was active in the public ministry from boyhood and as a servant to the congregation for several years.
Johnnie loved to tell the story about how his letter from the local draft board exempting him because he was still in high school arrived in his mailbox more than 12 years late.
Branting was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Candace. He survived by his sister Victoria Arrasmith and his five brothers: Steven, Ed, Tony, Randy and Wally and their spouses, along with many nephews and nieces.
His remains have been cremated and will be scattered near his favorite fishing spot at a later date.
A memorial service for Johnnie will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1434 Ripon Ave. in the Lewiston Orchards.
