Johnny M. Goodman

Johnny M. Goodman

4/6/1973 — 3/9/2017

Mike was born to Johnny L. and Opal A. (Carpenter) Goodman on April 6, 1973, in Pomeroy. He passed away March 9, 2017, in Secaucus, N.J., of a heart attack while he was doing what he loved - setting up for the Grand Prix New Jersey Magic the Gathering Tournament.

Mike lived in Pomeroy until he was in third grade and then move to Clarkston with his mom, Opal. He attended the Clarkston schools and graduated in June of 1991. After high school Mike went into the U.S. Marine Corps, and on Sept. 7, 1991, he married his high school sweetheart, April Dawn Galles. They then moved to Quantico, Va., while Mike worked for the Marine security battalion. In November 1993, they moved back to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and Mike started working for the Lewiston School District. He later got a job working for the Genesee School District as their network administrator.

In December 1994, their son Logan James was born, and then in September 1999, their daughter Hannah Rose was born. During this time, Mike started playing Magic the Gathering and going to tournaments and learned to be a judge. This is when he meet Tim Shields, who owned and ran Cascade Games in Portland, Ore. In July 2006, the family moved to the Portland area, living in Hillsboro and Banks, Ore., and at the time of his death they lived in Hillsboro again.

For the last few years Mike had been working as an independent contractor for Cascade Games and Channel Fireball as well being a driver for Lyft in the Portland area. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was well known in the gaming community due to traveling all over the country working for tournaments, and they all became his extended family.

Mike was preceded in death by his dad, Johnny Leroy Goodman, and his mother-in-law, Deanna Joan Galles. Mike's survivors are his wife, April, son Logan and daughter Hannah, all from Hillsboro; his mother, Opal Arline Schaffer from Clarkston; and two half-brothers and a half-sister who live in Arkansas; as well as Billie and Dan Speicher and family from Hillsboro, Jennifer Derrick and family from Orofino, Don and Tawny Galles and family from Clarkston, and Steven and Katherine Galles and family from Lake Waccamaw, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is planned for 1 to 6 p.m. April 15 at the Quality Inn and Suites, 700 Port Drive, Clarkston. Please join us in remembering Mike with your funny stories and memories.

Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements with the funeral home in New Jersey.

An extra special thank you needs to go to Trevor Baker and Jon Saso with Channel Fireball and Tim and Traci Shields with Cascade Games for all the love and support you have provided Mike's family.
