On Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, our beloved sister passed away after a long struggle with dementia. Karen was born in Lewiston to Melvin L. and Nadine F. Gustin Jones on Sept. 28, 1944.
She was the second born of six children.
Karen had a lifelong passion for horses. As a young woman, she was a princess for the Lewiston 49ers Saddle Club, and participated in many rodeos, gymkhanas and horse shows. Karen graduated from Lewiston High School in 1962.
Throughout her life, Karen had different jobs in many locations. Cooking and dietary food service was the job that gave her the ability to work and see the country. She was able to work and explore the west by cooking at colleges in Washington and California and an opportunity to serve a large conference in the Netherlands.
Karen moved back home to Orofino to be near family and to work at State Hospital North. She moved into our family home on Harmony Heights to provided care and companionship to our mother, Nadine. With Karen’s presence, Mom was able to live at home until her passing in 2017. What she did for our mother will never be forgotten.
Karen was married twice and had no children. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, Charlotte; and a nephew, Kyle Jamison Jones. Karen is survived by a sister, Carolyn Antonsen (Ray), of Chattaroy, Wash., brothers: Alan Jones, Asotin, Kim Jones (Pam) Lewiston, and Kevin Jones (Ginger), Orofino.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
