L. Leroy Kress, 81, of Lewiston, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, due to a stroke.

He was born Jan. 17, 1944, in Lewiston to Lawrence and Katherine (Gibbs) Kress. Leroy grew up on the family farm on Webb Road. He graduated from Lapwai High School in 1962. After graduation he enlisted in the National Guard.

He married his high school sweetheart, Vonda L. Searle on Oct. 5, 1962. Together they had two children, Lori Lee and Robbie Gene. They raised produce, ran the fruit stand near the old Tikki Club, raised cattle and farmed. They divorced in 1990.

Lindsay Lynn joined the family on Aug. 6, 1996.

He married Mary George on June 30, 2001.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, basketball, music and spending time with his family, but if we were to be honest, his true passions were his cows and his truck. He loved raising a garden and producing killer tomatoes which he succeeded very well at due to his Gibbs family roots.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Mary, of 24 years at the family home; his daughters, Lori (Mike) Zenner, Lindsay (Nathan) Engler and stepson Dan (Tracey) Eames; his grandchildren, Chelsie (Brock) Moreland, Jamie (Chris) Reaves, Clayton (Kayla) Zenner; step-grandchildren Mireya and Airanna Brunson and Steven Eames; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Robbie Gene, and stepdaughter Shandell Eames.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, 920 21st Ave., Lewiston.
