Leita Beard passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at her home on Asotin Creek with her beloved caretaker of 13 years by her side. Leita was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Weiser, Idaho, to Harry and Martha Swisher. She had an older sister LaVera and later a younger brother Bob.
The family moved from Indian Valley, Idaho, to Paradise, Ore., and all three children attended grade school at Deer Creek and went to high school at Flora and Enterprise, Ore. Then LaVera and Leita attended business college in La Grande, Ore.
Leita married Leo Beard in 1941. Two daughters were born — Carolyn in 1943 and Sharon in 1945. Leita and Leo ranched and logged their entire lives in Asotin and Wallowa counties.
Carolyn (Cutler) passed away in 2008. Leo passed away in 2017. There remains Leroy Cutler and his son Michael, Lew and Sharon Bloodsworth and their three sons Sparky, Karl, (Richel) and Wade (Debbie), great-grandchildren Brittanie (Michael), Hoadley, Brandy, Levi, Sidney and Cody Bloodsworth; and two great-great-granddaughters Paisley and Willow.
Honoring Leita’s wishes, there will be no services.
