Leo Beard, 97, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at his home on Asotin Creek.
Leo was born Dec. 28, 1919, near Paradise, Ore., to Len and Ina (Varney) Beard. He was the sixth of seven children. Siblings were Georgia Estes, Frank, Orpha Reiman, Ralph, Mable Wamsley and Leonard. All are deceased except for Leonard.
The family lived on Joseph Creek from 1906 to 1942, and the children attended the Deer Creek School near Paradise.
In 1941, Leo married Leita Swisher. They logged and ranched in Asotin and Wallowa counties for many years. Two daughters were born to them: Carolyn (Cutler) and Sharon Bloodsworth. Carolyn passed away in 2008.
Leo is survived by his wife of 67 years; his daughter, Sharon and Lew Bloodsworth; three grandsons, Richard "Sparky" Bloodsworth, Karl (Richel) Bloodsworth and Wade (Debbie) Bloodsworth; great-grandchildren Brittanie, Brandy, Levi, Sidney and Cody Bloodsworth; son-in-law Leroy Cutler; stepgrandson Michael Cutler; and devoted caretaker Lisa Snodderly.

Honoring Leo's wishes, there will be no services.
