Lee was born Nov. 2, 1929, to C.F. Fred and Ida Killam Moldenhauer at home in New Underwood, S.D., the fifth of seven children. He passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017.
Lee attended school in New Underwood and was active in all sports. A few years after graduating, he received his draft notice and spent most of his tour in Germany and France. Lee was discharged in September 1952 and joined his retired parents in Clarkston.
He started working for Potlatch Forests Inc., now Clearwater Paper. He was injured in the tissue mill fire in September 1980. He and three other employees entered a burning building to help a fireman who was trapped under some bales. He held several positions and retired Jan. 1, 1992, as a journeyman oiler.
Lee married Evelyn Hendley on Sept. 4, 1953. She passed away April 5, 2002. He married Deanna "DeeDee" Nilsson Oct. 24, 2003. She passed away May 26, 2007.
He loved spending time with family and friends at the cabin at Deary, traveling, working crossword puzzles and playing cribbage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Evelyn; second wife, Deanna; stepdaughter Darlene Garber; brothers Cal, Glen and George; and sister Polly Reno. He is survived by sisters Mary Voelker and Fern Fillers; brothers-in-law Gene (Janese) White and Dee White; stepchildren Gay Pennington (Mark), Shane Nilsson, Shawn (LeeAnn) Nilsson, Shanna Nilsson and Shad Nilsson; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He felt fortunate that he was able to survive the fall of the stock market, the Great Depression, the blizzard of 1948 and 1949 and the hail storm of September 1960 in Rapid City, S.D.
Private burial was at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston. A celebration of life will be held May 20 at the Clarkston Quality Inn.
