Born June 17, 1952, to James A. Roe and MaryAnn (Hedberg) Roe in Coeur d’Alene. He passed away from natural causes Monday, Aug. 12, 2024 at his home in Clarkston.
His mother encouraged him to be successful at whatever he attempted, his father taught him to embrace human nature and work hard.
Growing up enjoying team sports and motorcycle racing he made many lifetime friends. By the time he reached high school his father noticed he was quite dedicated to sports through Boys Club and school; so he opened a muffler shop and left Mike to run it after school and weekends to “teach him responsibility, rewards of hard work, so he wouldn’t grow up and be a jock that didn’t know how to use a tool.” He graduated from Lewiston High School with honors in 1970.
After high school he followed his father to Townsend, Mont., where he “interned” at his restaurant, bar, hotel. The employees became family and many lifetime friendships were made.
At one point he left for several years to work in the oil fields in Alaska as an equipment operator. He met many new friends with lots of stories to tell.
When his father got sick, he retired from the oil fields and returned to Townsend to manage the family business. He never had any children but his pets were his children: Atlas, Strohs and Ruby, just to name a few. While in Montana, he met the love of his life, Rosa Pierce. He was impressed by her strength, unselfish demeanor, work ethic and ability to make decisions beyond her years. He remained devoted to her to the end.
He sold the business and moved back to the valley to be with family, but always missed Montana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Denise (Roe) Welch.
He is survived by a sister Sherry Lyons (husband Ron) of Lewiston; nephew, Brad Lyons; niece, Cindy Sangster; and four great-nieces of which he was very proud. He is also survived by his best friend, Rosa Pierce, of Lewiston.
