Dec. 9, 1924 - March 27, 2017
Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Myrla P. Corlis "Mickey," died Monday, March 27, 2017, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston. She was in the company of her family and supported by the community that she loved.
Mickey was born in Henefer, Utah, in the home of her parents, Marguerite and Howard Paskett. She was the sixth of seven children.
Her family lived a rural life in that small town, where she grew up milking the family cow, gathering eggs and riding her horse to move livestock from one grazing area to the next. Her mother ran the ranch most of the year while her father ran a large band of 5,000 sheep in summer and winter grazing country with her older brothers.
Mickey went to school in Henefer, where she graduated from North Summit High School in 1943.
In October 1943, she met her future husband, Bob Corlis, at a community dance. It was love at first sight. (He was the person who nicknamed her Mickey.) They began a long and loving correspondence after he joined the U.S. Army in December of that year. He wrote her a letter every day until the end of the war in 1946.
In 1943, Mickey joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps and trained to be a registered nurse in Ogden, Utah. Following the end of the war, Mickey and Bob were married in December of 1946. They then moved to Pocatello so Bob could attend pharmacy school. In 1950, Bob and Mickey moved to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, where he worked as a pharmacist for the rest of his working life.
Mickey was involved with her church and her community. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different callings. Perhaps her favorite was as the stake young women's president. She led many young women at summer camps and is fondly remembered by a generation of her campers.
Mickey was an avid golfer for nearly 60 years. She played most recently in the fall of 2016 and was looking forward to another season of golf this spring.
She volunteered in the toy workshop at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for 21 years. She loved the group of volunteers that sewed with her every week, and they loved her.
Mickey also was a quilter. She learned this from her mother and continued to quilt her whole life. The last quilt she made was finished and given to a friend in February. She made a quilt for each of her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If you have one of her quilts, you know you are fortunate.
Mickey is survived by her daughter, DeNene; her son, Philip; and their families, Curtis, Sarah and Graham Banger of Portland, Matt and Nicki Banger of Mead, Wash., Scott, Marie and Quinne Rozell of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Brieanna and Skye Smith of Kentucky. Mickey's younger brother Scott lives in Portland.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1123 16th Ave., Clarkston. It will be followed by a graveside service at Vineland Cemetery.
Donations in her name can be given to the charity of your choice.

What a wonderful person. I am so grateful to have had her in my life. I will miss our phone conversations where we reminisced about times gone by. I can see it in my minds eye, Bob, (Rip as my father always called him), was waiting impatiently saying 'damn Mickey, what took you so long? I have waiting and missed you terribly', and then gave her a long awaited hug.
