Paul E. Simpson

5/13/1937 — 3/23/2016

Paul Eugene Simpson was born May 13, 1937, to Ralph Elmer Simpson and Catherine Elizabeth Laux Simpson in Lewistown, Mont. He grew up on the family farm with his brothers, Ward, Joe and Bob, and little sister Patricia. He played high school basketball and trombone in the band. He graduated from Moore High School in 1955 and attended Montana State University and was part of the ROTC program. He married his high school sweetheart and they had two children. Moving to Seattle in 1959, he worked for IBM and added a son to the family. In 1962, IBM moved him to Lewiston. Another son was added to the family.

He left IBM and become self-employed selling cookware. He loved to cook and was good at it. After a divorce, he met the love of his life, Darlene Ash Simpson. They were married Sept. 2, 1966. He managed The Playmate, aka "Jekyll and Hyde's" a very popular restaurant/night club in the valley. He was also well-known for being an exceptional tax man who was not afraid of the Internal Revenue Service. He worked his magic for 41 years. He loved to travel, having clients from the West to East Coast.

He loved comedy and knew many comedians, well-known and up-and-coming. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Jaycees, Toastmasters, IBM's $Million Club, the Lewiston Eagles and was a life member of the Lewiston Elks Lodge.

Paul passed very peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, March 23, 2016, to be with family members and friends. While at Prestige in Lewiston, he was well taken care of by the loving staff.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Darlene; daughter Christine; sons Anthony of Lewiston and Scott (Gina) of Spokane; grandchildren Jessica, Ethan (Torie), Shaylee, Zane, Dominic and Isabella; great-grandchildren Heath and Clover; brothers Ward (Joy), Joe (Betty) and Bob (Avis); sister Pat (Joe) Dirkson; mother-in-law Evelyn Ash; brother-in-law Duane (Charlotte) Ash; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Also special in his heart were Tammie, Betty, Karin and many friends who were like family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; his parents; and father-in-law Charles Ash.

There will be a celebration of life in the future; no date is set.

I hope you enjoyed life as much as you deserved. I stopped a few times, but too late at night. The last time was a month ago. Always enjoyed your knowledge and logic --- which was world class. Thanks Darlene for all your care and love.
