Richard Vandemore

Richard Gregory Vandemore, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 88 years old.

Richard was born Nov. 2, 1937, in Seattle, to Charles and Rose Vandemore. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Vandemore.

Richard’s life was a testament to love, dedication and unwavering commitment to his family. On Nov. 28, 1959, he married the love of his life, Marilla Chambers, in Culver City, Calif. Together they built a beautiful life spanning more than 66 years, raising three wonderful children: Julia Aldrich (Bruce), Richard Gregory Vandemore Jr. (Patty) and James Vandemore.

Richard was the proud grandfather of Ryan Aldrich (Beth), Adrian Aldrich and Marilla June Zenner (Gillette), and a loving great-grandfather to Grant, R.J., Jamison, Forrest, Maxwell and Marilla Mae. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him immense joy and were among his greatest blessings.

He is survived by his devoted sister, Diane Bridges (Steve), along with many extended family members and cherished friends.

A graduate of Cleveland High School’s class of 1955, Richard answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. From 1955 to 1958, he served as a Radio Teletype Operator, carrying out his duties with pride and dedication.

Following his military service, Richard enjoyed a successful career with General Telephone, where he worked for 25 years before retiring.

Richard embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. He was an avid golfer, dedicated handball player and passionate motorcyclist. He treasured the friendships he formed over the years on the golf course and handball court, where camaraderie and laughter were always close at hand.

Richard also had a deep passion for art and music. A talented painter, he created numerous works of art that continue to be treasured by family and friends. His creativity, appreciation for beauty and love of music enriched the lives of those around him.

A true free spirit, Richard found both solace and adventure on the open road, always ready for a ride and eager to explore what lay beyond the horizon. Above all else, he was a devoted family man. He was a guiding light to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, generously sharing his love, wisdom and encouragement throughout their lives.

Though his presence will be profoundly missed, his spirit, kindness and lessons will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A funeral Mass celebrating Richard’s life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at All Saints Catholic Church, 3330 14th St., Lewiston.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Life Care and Ascend Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided during Richard’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Richard’s memory. Through acts of generosity and kindness, his legacy of love will continue to touch the lives of others, just as he did throughout his remarkable journey.
