Roselina Danairti Coffland, 55, a resident of Haines, Alaska, died from cancer on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. She was with her devoted husband, Edward George Coffland in Clarkston when she passed away.
Roselina was born in Lamongan, Indonesia, on Oct. 21, 1968, to Kushnindar (father) and Sri (mother). She attended a Catholic school in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, and graduated from high school from that same school. She later graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Indonesia.
After graduation, Roselina worked in importing and exporting in Jakarta, Indonesia. She learned to speak the languages of her customers, including Mandarin and Korean, in addition to her native languages, Balinese and Indonesian. She also taught herself to speak fluent English.
She was working as an Executive Assistant for Aetna Insurance Company in Jakarta when she met her future husband, Ed Coffland.
Ed and Roselina were married on Oct. 4, 1998, in Jakarta. Ed and Roselina were inseparable until her death.
After their marriage, Ed and Roselina moved to Bontang, Indonesia, where Ed was working as a civil engineer at the Bontang Coal mine. While at the coal mine, Roselina was worried about leaving her home country for a foreign land. At that time, Ed had only passing familiarity with the Bible, but opened and read Matthew 6:25-34 to Roselina. It happens that this passage talks about anxiety. Roselina told Ed that she did not want to hear from the Bible. Even still, she secretly continued to read the Bible for the next year and developed a strong Christian faith that carried her through the rest of her life.
Ed and Roselina also lived in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, for two years where Ed was working as a civil engineer. They met several dear friends in Saudi Arabia. These friends have become family to Ed and Roselina. Saudia Arabia was a great adventure and allowed them to travel from there to many other countries.
After coming to the United States, Roselina made the difficult decision to renounce her Indonesian citizenship and become a U.S. citizen. Her decision was influenced by the Bible passage, Ruth 1:15-18. She became a U.S. citizen in 2017 and was very proud to call herself an American.
Roselina is survived by her husband (Ed Coffland), her mother, Sri, her father (Kushnindar), her sister and sister’s husband (Nita and Wishnu), brother (Ferry), and another brother (Billy).
Ed and Roselina are members of the Haines Presbyterian Church in Haines, Alaska, where Roselina led the Children’s Church. She was also active in music and Bible studies at the church. Ed and Roselina also have many dear friends in Alaska.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Lewiston Orchards Church of the Nazarene, 347 Thain Road, Lewiston. A catered lunch will follow.
