Wilbur Allen Bartlett, with his loving wife and daughter by his side, went to be with his heavenly Father the morning of Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, after suffering a short battle with brain cancer.
Wilbur was born June 20, 1944, in St. Helens, Ore., to Fay and Irene Bartlett.
After graduating from St. Helens High School in 1962, he moved to Lewiston for work. Once in Lewiston, he met and married Dana Lee Brackenbury on March 12, 1965. In 1971, they were blessed with their sweet daughter, Tonia Elaine Bartlett.
Wilbur was called to duty with the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He returned to Lewiston after his honorable discharge from the service.
In October 1967, Wilbur applied to be a Lewiston police officer, and within one hour he was in uniform and on patrol duty. In February 1985, he retired as a sergeant from the detective division of the Lewiston Police Department after serving a little more than 17 years. He then worked as a school bus driver for the Lewiston School District for 10 years, retiring in 1996.
He very much enjoyed family camping trips to the Oregon Coast, as well as driving his various dune buggies and motorcycles. He was also an avid NASCAR fan until his passing.
Wilbur is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dana, and their daughter, Tonia. Also surviving are his sister, Cynthia Scott (Nile); brothers Wayne (Bette Lynn) Bartlett, and Keith (Dana) Bartlett; sister-in-law Estella (Tom) Niemann; and brothers-in-law Rod Brackenbury and Terry Hughes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather Harold Humpla.
Cremation has already taken place. There will be a graveside service for family and close friends at 10 a.m. Saturday at Normal Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fisher, Tri-State Memorial Hospital, Elite Hospice as well friends and family for their special care and kindness.
